John Cotton's Double Pressed Virginia

John Cotton's Double Pressed Virginia takes its name from its production method: unflavored Virginia is first pressed into flake, fully rubbed out and aired, then re-pressed into a crumble cake. The double pressing aims to strip away the leaf's sharp edges and deepen its flavor. The brand name comes from an old tobacconist shop in Edinburgh; the line was later brought back into production in America.

The resulting tobacco gives a fuller-bodied smoke than straight Virginias, with the tongue bite commonly found in Virginia leaf noticeably reduced. Sweetness gathers along honey and breadlike lines. It's noted as smokable straight from the tin without needing a long rest, suiting those who want to smoke Virginia without waiting. It took first place in the 2019 Chicago Bowl selection.
