Prince Albert is a Burley-based blend launched by R.J. Reynolds in 1907 that became one of the best-selling names in American pipe tobacco history. It's named after Edward VII, who was known as Prince Albert before taking the throne. When Reynolds divested its pipe tobacco line, the brand passed to John Middleton in 1987; Middleton's roots trace to a tobacconist shop opened in Philadelphia in 1856.

The blend is built from crimp-cut ribbon Burley combined with bright leaf and black Cavendish, topped with a light flavoring along cocoa and molasses lines. For that reason, it counts as a lightly flavored Burley rather than a full aromatic. It gives a nutty, cocoa-leaning, cool-burning smoke with low tongue bite. Suited to those wanting a fuss-free, classic American blend for all-day smoking and to those looking to get used to Burley character.
