Flame 1919 (2024)

Flame 1919 is Kohlhase & Kopp's 100-gram limited edition tin for 2024. The name references 1919, the year the family's group of companies was founded; the business begun by founder Martin Wess has stayed in family hands for over a century since. Tobacco production is carried out at their facility near Hamburg.

The blend places cube-cut Virginia and cube-cut Burley alongside cavendish and perique; the weight is on Virginia, with perique adding a small but noticeable spice-and-plum axis. Casing is measured, so a lightly flavored Virginia character comes forward more than an aromatic one; honey and nutty tastes are balanced by Burley's dry body. The cube cut burns slowly and packs easily; suited to smokers who are Virginia-based and don't want heavy casing.
