Cake Box is the house blend of the Leavitt & Peirce shop, operating in Harvard Square since 1883. It takes its name from how it was prepared in its founding years: the mixture was reportedly made at home in a large cake tin by one of the shop owners' wives. In the shop's own promotion, the blend is described as the mixture generations of Harvard students turned to for years.
It's a classic American-type mixture sold in bulk over the shop counter; the base leaves carry a measured casing, and body is medium. Of interest to those curious about the palate of university-town shop blends, and to those seeking a balanced bulk tobacco for everyday smoking. Available only at the shop and through its own sales channel.
