HH Vintage Syrian was introduced in 2006, the year Mac Baren launched the HH line; the HH in the series' name stands for founder Harald Halberg's initials. Nearly half the blend's volume is Syrian latakia, and this leaf defines the overall smoky character. Turkish oriental is added for a spicy note, Virginias gathered from three continents for natural sweetness, and a small amount of American fire-cured Kentucky for body and depth. The product is presented as a loose cut, giving an even, cool burn.
As Syrian latakia stocks ran out, the blend was discontinued after 2017. Mac Baren introduced HH Vintage Latakia, prepared with Cyprus latakia, in its place; since the two leaves' characters differ, the proportions were also changed. Today it's a record of interest to those seeking latakia-forward Balkan-type blends, findable only in old tins.
