Modern Virginia Loose Cut is the same blend presented unpressed, as loose cut. Its composition is the same as the flake version: roughly seventy percent two separate Virginia types, twenty percent black Cavendish made from Virginia leaf, and ten percent Burley. The Burley balances the blend's sweetness and cools the burn; the blend carries a light top note reminiscent of ripe fruit.

Being loose cut, it needs no packing preparation and lights faster than the slice version; on the other hand, rather than the concentrated taste pressing gives, a plainer, lighter smoke results.
