Presbyterian Mixture is a classic English mixture whose origin traces back to pre-World War I Glasgow. Records indicate the blend was prepared for Dr. John White, minister of Barony Kirk, and got its name from a suggestion made by a politician of the era. It's produced today under the Mac Baren umbrella. Its structure is Virginia-forward, joined by Macedonia-sourced Oriental leaves and very little Latakia. No flavoring is used.
Its character differs from heavy English mixtures that spotlight Latakia: here, smoke isn't the dominant taste but a shadow at the edge. Virginia's natural sugar and the Oriental's dry, tangy, spicy aroma lead. Nicotine load is measured, suiting all-day smoking. A suitable starting point for those new to Latakia blends and for smokers who don't love heavy smoke but want Oriental character.
