Stockton is one of the first rope-cut products introduced in 1953 and produced under the Mac Baren name. Whole Virginia leaves are used as the outer wrap; inside the wrap is a spicy Cavendish core prepared from dark-fire-cured Kentucky. The spun ropes are rested for weeks before being cut into thin coins. Per sources, roughly four-sixths of the mixture is North American Virginia, with the rest dark-fire-cured Kentucky. The product was originally marketed as "navy cut."
The taste arises from the combination of the flame-cured leaf's natural sugar with Kentucky-sourced tangy, woody, and sharp tones; underneath there's a steady smoky layer. As with Mac Baren's rope products, only a thin maple-sugar coating is used. Among the company's spun products, it carries the highest Cavendish proportion and is thus considered the most full-bodied. Nicotine load is high; aimed at smokers used to coin cut and a strong Virginia-Kentucky structure.
