Oriental Mixture No. 1

Oriental Mixture No. 1 is the first number in McClelland's green-label Oriental series. Per the maker's description, the blend's backbone is small-leaved, sun-cured Oriental tobaccos; Virginia and Carolina leaves raise the sweetness, while a measured amount of Latakia is added for body and depth. The ribbon cut packs easily and burns evenly and cool.

In the smoke, the Oriental tobaccos' tangy, pickle-like sharpness stands out; in the background there's an herbal note reminiscent of tea leaf and a fine smokiness from the Latakia. Nicotine load is moderate. Suited to smokers seeking blends built around Oriental tobacco where Latakia is used like a spice rather than a main ingredient. McClelland stopped production in 2018; the blend is no longer on the market.
