Royal Cajun Ebony is the darkest member of McClelland's series built around the Cajun Black component. Cajun Black is produced by first smoking Virginia-seed leaf grown in Kentucky, then barrel-pressing and fermenting it as with Perique; per the brand's description, it was the first new component added to pipe tobacco in over forty years. In Ebony, stoved dark Virginia leaves are used alongside this component.

In the smoke, smoky, woody, and spicy layers stand out; the tangy sweetness from the Virginia serves as a balancing background. Body runs medium to full, and it calls for a slow smoke. Suited to smokers who find the other series members not dark enough and who seek fermented, smoked leaf character. McClelland ceased operations in 2018.
