Smyrna No.1

Smyrna No. 1 is a blend in McClelland's Grand Orientals series, named after the tobaccos of the İzmir (Smyrna) region. It contains İzmir-origin Oriental tobaccos supported by Virginia leaf; the cut is ribbon. On opening the tin, a whole leaf laid over the blend stands out, and the aroma carries the brand's familiar tanginess.

In the smoke, Virginia's sweetness comes first, followed by the distinctive flavor of Turkish tobacco. The leaf lights easily; smoked quickly it can run hot and turn bitter, so it calls for a slow smoke. Turkish-language sources note that airing the tin for a few days after opening settles the moisture and flavor. Suited to smokers who want to hear Oriental tobacco as the main ingredient. McClelland closed in 2018.
