Hallo Twist

Hallo Twist is one of the Motzek workshop's entries continuing the twist/rope tradition. Virginia and perique leaves build the flavor backbone, while black cavendish supplies a supporting sweetness in the background. The tobacco is sold wound into rope form; before smoking, it is cut into thin coins with a sharp knife and rubbed by hand before being loaded into the pipe.

On the taste side, dried-fruit associations (plum, raisin) and a peppery point from the perique are reported; the light vinegary scent natural to twist tobaccos comes from the way the tobacco is preserved and largely dissipates during drying. The maker rates its strength as three out of five, placing it at medium body, making it an accessible starting point for those new to twist tobaccos. Since twist tobaccos burn slowly, a small-chambered pipe is noted to ease the packing and lighting process.
