Plug No. 2

Plug No. 2 is a product from the pressed-tobacco line of the Motzek workshop, founded in Kiel. It is a plug in which Virginia leaves are combined with black cavendish, honey is added, and the mixture is blocked under pressure, then sliced and cut into cubes before smoking. It is presented as a firmly pressed brick; it needs to be sliced with a sharp knife and, if necessary, allowed to lose some moisture.

In character it is a blend that carries no artificial flavoring and stays on the natural-tobacco side: Virginia's bready sweetness leads, cavendish adds softness and darkness, and the honey rounds out the sweetness. Strength sits in the light-to-medium band, it burns clean and leaves little residue. A fitting starting point for smokers wanting to get to know the plug format, or considering moving from flavored tobaccos to natural virginia blends. The Motzek workshop passed to Tom Darasz after Herbert Motzek's retirement, and its products have since come to be known under the name TAK (Tabak aus Kiel).
