Sailing City

Sailing City is an American-style blend taking its name from Kiel's identity as a sailing city. Heavily cut virginias and dark-fired virginias are joined by a generous amount of perique and kentucky. It is presented as a coarse cut, in very broad ribbons and sometimes chunk-sized pieces; this coarseness produces a slow, cool burn.

At the core of the taste, Virginia's bready sweetness meets kentucky's woody smokiness, while perique pulls the sharpness upward with pepper and dark-fruit acidity. The nicotine load sits above medium. Suitable for smokers who enjoy unflavored, tobacco-focused, spicy blends and are used to packing coarsely cut tobaccos. Motzek is a small Kiel-based workshop that has produced its own tobacco since the late 1970s; after Herbert Motzek's retirement, production passed to Tom Darasz, and the products have continued under the name TAK.
