127 Wayfarer is a Virginia-Perique composition among the numbered house blends of New York tobacconist Nat Sherman. According to the recipe of its creator, Christopher McGrath, roughly a third of the composition is Perique; the remainder consists of red, bright, and stoved Virginia leaves. This unusually high Perique proportion defines the blend's character from start to finish.
In the smoke, peppery spice takes the lead, while Perique's typical plum-and-fig sweetness sits behind it as a deeper undertone. Being a full-bodied, nicotine-rich tobacco, it is not recommended on an empty stomach or as the day's first bowl, but rather for those looking for a filling smoke. It suits smokers accustomed to Perique as well as cigar smokers looking for intense flavor. Production ceased when Nat Sherman ended its tobacco operations in 2020.
