Mr. Nielsen is among the My Own Blend special editions, put together by blender Lasse Berg in memory of Steffen Nielsen, founder of The Danish Pipe Shop in Copenhagen. Its base holds mild Virginia and cavendish leaves, joined by oriental leaf and a small amount of latakia. It is topped with red wine, vanilla, chocolate, and almond essences.
The blend is a hybrid sitting between modern aromatics and old-style English mixtures: the topping aroma is pronounced, but the latakia and oriental leave a thin smoky-spicy line. Its measured nicotine load makes it suitable for all-day smoking; it can be counted as a stepping stone for smokers moving from aromatics toward English mixtures.
