Boston is one of the limited-run tins PCCA (the Pipe Collectors Club of America) had McClelland produce for club members. The first entry in the series appeared in 1993 as a 1776-tin edition, and the Boston name was reused in later years with the date changed. Records indicate the blend is a flake made of high-grade bright red and yellow Virginia leaf, with roughly three percent Turkish leaf added.
As an unflavored Virginia it gives a bready, herbal taste that deepens into sweetness over time; the small share of oriental leaf adds a spicy edge. The flake form gives a slow, cool burn and rewards resting. Because PCCA tins came out in small runs of 300-400, it survives today only in collections; with McClelland's closure in 2018, the blend is no longer in production.
