British Blend

British is one of the house blends produced by L.J. Peretti Co. in Boston and, per the maker's own description, is counted among the house's fuller-bodied mixtures. Latakia and Perique are placed together on top of Virginia and Oriental leaf; using this pair together gives the blend both a smoky depth and a spicy edge. The cut is ribbon, as is customary in the shop's counter blends, and it is well suited to aging in a jar.

The blend is aimed at smokers whose palates are accustomed to Latakia and who are seeking full-bodied English mixtures. It is not light in nicotine, so it can be demanding on an empty stomach or as the first pipe of the day. Peretti was founded in 1870 and reportedly began blending pipe tobacco around 1915; the majority of the house's more than eighty blends came from third-generation Robert Peretti.
