Revelation was reportedly launched in 1923 by the Continental Tobacco Co., and after that company passed to Philip Morris in 1934 it was sold under the Philip Morris name for many years. It was later produced for a time by House of Windsor before going out of production entirely. It is one of the more frequently mentioned records in American pipe history for its association with photographs of Albert Einstein smoking a pipe.
Period descriptions state the blend was built from Burley, Virginia, Carolina leaf, Latakia, and Perique, combined moreover in different cuts; this structure allowed the tobacco to pack more evenly into a pipe. In doing so, at a time when the American market was dominated by plain Burley-forward blends, it offered a more complex construction that included Latakia and Perique. Today it is known only from old tins or from blends made in tribute to it.
