Blending Perique

Blending Perique is not a standalone blend but a single-varietal leaf sold in bulk for use in blending. Fermented under pressure in a barrel in Louisiana's St. James region, Perique is known for its distinctive plum, fig, and pepper associations; the batch pipesandcigars.com sells is reportedly Sutliff's Louisiana Perique coded TS-20.

The leaf is extremely intense and full, so it is usually used as a small percentage of a mixture; it is most often paired with Virginia to build the frame called VA-Per. It serves as an intermediate ingredient for home blenders; smoked alone, its nicotine and flavor intensity are at the top end.
