Red Ox is one of the products from R.C. Owen Tobacco Company, which has hand-twisted tobacco in Gallatin, Tennessee since 1931. Like about ten other twist brands from the firm, it is prepared by hand by twisting the leaves into a rope shape and sold in two sizes, small and giant. The leaf used is reportedly a dark-colored variety known as "One Sucker," over a century old; it is thought to be the same as the Ox Tongue tobacco referenced in old texts.
