Wingfield Mixture is an unflavored ribbon-cut blend prepared from aged Virginia leaf with a very small amount of black Cavendish and Latakia added. Being a ribbon cut, it burns evenly and cool. The blend is named, according to records, for Walter Wingfield, the inventor of the earliest form of lawn tennis and a longtime customer of the Robert Lewis shop.
With no flavoring present, the leaves' own tastes come forward: citrus tartness, dry hay, oak, and earthy notes appear in varying measure. The Latakia amount is too small to make the smoky layer pronounced; black Cavendish softens it with sweetness. Strength sits in the middle of the medium range. It suits smokers looking for a plain, balanced, unflavored Virginia-based blend.
