Pure Black Cavendish is a member of Robert McConnell's single-varietal "Pure" series. Rather than offering a finished blend, the series consists of pure leaves meant for smokers to build their own mixtures or modify a ready-made one. This leaf is Cavendish processed and darkened under steam and pressure; its natural sugars caramelize, giving it a sweet, mellow character.

Nicotine is low and it does not bite the tongue. Smoked on its own its flavor range is narrow; its real purpose is adding sweetness, moisture, and body to Virginia- or Burley-heavy blends and slowing the burn rate. It serves as a base component for smokers building their own mixtures. The brand is Belfast in origin; production today takes place in Germany.
