Pure Louisiana Perique

Pure Louisiana Perique is a 100% perique product containing no casing or other leaf. According to records, leaf grown in the St. James region of Louisiana is fermented under pressure in oak barrels for years; this process gives the tobacco its characteristic vinegary tartness, dried-fruit tones, and sharp peppery character. It is packaged ribbon cut.

It is not designed to be smoked alone; its nicotine and flavor intensity are heavy enough to make packing a bowl alone difficult. It is used as a blending component: added at five-to-ten percent to a Virginia-forward mixture, it builds the familiar pepper-plum balance of the va-per type. A component for experienced smokers who prepare their own blends.
