St. James Flake

St. James Flake is Samuel Gawith's pressed slice tobacco bringing together Virginia and Perique. Its name references the St. James region of Louisiana where the Perique leaf is grown. It is tinned with the high moisture typical of the brand's flakes; drying it thoroughly before packing eases the burn and gives an even burn throughout the bowl.

The Perique share in the blend is pronounced; although Virginia's sweetness is felt at the start of the bowl, Perique's peppery, astringent line takes over shortly after and becomes dominant in the final portions. Nicotine fullness and flavor intensity are high, sharpening with a fast smoke. Aimed at experienced smokers who want to know the Perique character in high dose; not suitable for those expecting a mild, pure Virginia. The ash is light gray and clean.
