Doblone d'Oro

Doblone d'Oro takes its name from the Spanish gold coins whose origin dates to the sixteenth century; the tin lid's golden-yellow color also references this. The blend is built with selected virginia, burley, and fire-cured dark leaf, with perique added; the mixture is rolled into a rope, aged, then sliced into coin form and sold in 100-gram vacuum tins.

The first draw brings virginia's fruity, lightly sour sweetness; then the fire-cured leaf's and burley's malt, nut, and cured-meat-like taste comes forward. Perique adds a peppery, sharp layer on top of these. The coins can be packed crumbled or whole; since the tin opens moist, some airing may be needed. Suited to experienced smokers seeking a medium-to-above-medium strength, layered Virginia-perique structure.
