English Mixture

English Mixture is one of Savinelli's longest-produced blends. A high proportion of latakia is added to sweet virginia and light burley leaf; some Oriental also adds spice and floral depth. The coarsely cut, partly granulated leaf is prepared for an even burn; no top-note flavoring is applied, and it is sold in 50-gram tins.

On the smoke, latakia's grassy-woody soot and burley's spicy, dry taste lead; virginia's sweetness is sensed at the start and recedes as the bowl progresses. The burn is very slow and the tobacco does not overheat, though it is noted the pipe bottom can gurgle. Suited to smokers seeking latakia against a burley foundation, wanting a medium-strength, unflavored English-style mixture.
