Darley Moor is the Schneiderwind house's dark, full-bodied pressed blend. Its foundation is fire-cured, dark-colored Kentucky flakes; these are joined by selected Virginia leaf and a pinch of Louisiana-origin perique. No additives are used; the flavor comes from the leaves' own smoky, spicy, and lightly fruity character.
According to records, the blend was built with smokers accustomed to classic English mixtures in mind and is described by the producer as aimed at experienced pipe smokers. Nicotine load is pronounced, not suited to smoking on an empty stomach. The flake structure gives a slow, cool burn; it needs to be rubbed or folded for packing. Sold in 100-gram packages.
