Deception Pass

Deception Pass is a Virginia-Perique blend built as Seattle Pipe Club's Pacific Northwest take. The body is carried by English-type Virginia leaf; Oriental leaf, Perique, and a small amount of black cavendish are added as accents. The plum-and-pepper spice Perique brings sharpens the bready sweetness of the Virginia, while the cavendish share softens the blend's edges. Since it is not Latakia-forward, the smoke stays brighter and sweeter than the brand's better-known English blends.

The blend takes its name from Deception Pass strait in Washington State. Per the producer's description, it has a low tendency to bite the tongue during the burn, making it suited to long smoking sessions. Suited to smokers seeking the fruity sweetness of Virginia-based blends who also want a measured layer of spice alongside it; also considered a transitional entry for those newly approaching Perique.
