Down Yonder

Down Yonder is an unflavored straight Virginia blend built from a single leaf type: Virginia leaf grown in Brazil is stoved for a long time at low heat and pressed into a crumble cake. The slow stoving caramelizes the leaf's own sugar, producing a smoky sweetness; the blend delivers an unflavored tobacco taste in the same line from start to finish.

The name evokes, in rural American speech, a distant place beyond the horizon and a longing for simpler times. The stoving method was one frequently used by Joe Lankford, the creator of the Seattle Pipe Club blends. Suited to smokers who don't want added flavoring and seek a one-dimensional but deep Virginia, and who are accustomed to preparing cake tobacco.
