Balkan II #512

Balkan II #512 is the Balkan-style blend in Sutliff's numbered bulk line. Per the maker's description, its composition includes a high proportion of four separate Turkish (oriental) leaves along with a generous amount of latakia and the brand's matured Virginia leaves. Compared to Balkan I in the same line, both the oriental and latakia shares are notably increased; the name reflects this difference.

On the palate, latakia's smoke, tar, and wood tones stand at the very front; the orientals' dry, spicy, tart edge emerges from within that smoke, while Virginia provides a measured sweetness in the background. It's unflavored. Flavor intensity is high, while nicotine stays at a medium level. Designed for smokers accustomed to latakia-forward blends; it makes for a harsh introduction for someone coming from aromatics. Sold in bulk as ribbon cut.
