Eastfarthing, part of Sutliff's Private Stock line, is a mixture that blends the aromatic and English blending traditions. A base of stoved burley, mature red Virginia, and rested Cyprus latakia is rounded out with a light vanilla-based top note. The ribbon cut consists predominantly of brown, dark brown, and black leaves, with bright golden strands appearing here and there. Its name comes from the eastern region of the Shire in J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings.
The smoke carries a sweet, soft body; because the latakia ratio is kept low, the smoky character stays at the level of a noticeable wood-smoke hint, and the vanilla note recedes in the final third of the bowl. With its light nicotine strength, it serves as a suitable stepping stone for smokers wanting to transition into latakia blends or move past aromatics into smoky flavors.
