Old San Francisco

Old San Francisco, part of Sutliff's Private Stock line, is prepared as an unflavored medium English mixture. Latakia and a small amount of perique are added to a Virginia and burley base; fire-cured burley gives the blend a nutty body, while the perique leaves a light pepper note in the background.

The latakia carries the smoky side but doesn't overpower the mixture; in that sense it counts as a more measured take on heavier latakia blends. The leaf comes dry out of the tin and keeps its burn going through the bowl. It falls within the interest of those looking for an unflavored, medium-strength English mixture.
