TS20 Perique Granulated 208-R

TS20 is the pure Louisiana Perique sold in Sutliff's straight-leaf series; the 208-R code indicates the product's granulated cut. Perique is grown only in Louisiana's St. James region; after harvest it is pressed under its own weight in barrels and fermented, turning it into an extremely dark, moist, intense leaf. Its taste carries a peppery, spicy depth reminiscent of plum and fig, with a fruity character and a light earthy note as well.

This product is generally taken as a blending ingredient rather than smoked on its own. Even adding a few percent to a Virginia-forward base adds a distinct layer of spice and fermented fruit to the taste. If smoked pure, it should be tried in very small amounts and drawn slowly; both nicotine load and taste intensity are high.
