245 ZBC is Sutliff's classic American black Cavendish. Green River Burley is first roasted, then steamed for roughly twenty-four hours; fire-cured Kentucky leaf goes through the same process, yielding a dark, soft, moist Cavendish. A caramel-, cream-, and vanilla-forward flavoring is applied over it; records also note a trace of dark fruit and light spice.

The blend serves two purposes: as a soft aromatic smoked on its own, and as a component that adds sweetness, moisture, and dark color to other blends. Nicotine is light. Because of the moisture the Cavendish carries, airing it before packing noticeably changes both the burn and the taste balance.
