Fleur de Semois

Fleur de Semois is made from Semois leaf, grown in the Semois valley in Belgium's Ardennes region. Grown on Vincent Manil's farm and processed by traditional methods, this tobacco is a Burley variety that has adapted over centuries to the region's damp, misty soil and has been known in Europe for over a hundred years. Fleur de Semois is the fine-cut (coupe fine) version of this leaf and carries no casing or flavoring whatsoever.

The taste doesn't resemble familiar pipe blends: it gives an earthy, floral, cool smoke, with a tin note and smoke reminiscent of cigar tobacco. The leaf can seem coarse when young, but records indicate it mellows with a few years of aging. Because it is finely cut, it needs a loose fill. It suits anyone curious about an unflavored, single-leaf tobacco with a taste close to cigar leaf.
