Tabac Turc's Türk Pipo Tütünü is, according to records, a blend whose recipe dates back nearly a century and which served for years as the staple tobacco of pipe smokers in Turkey. It is made from Yayladağı, Bitlis, İzmir, and Adıyaman leaf; the product is prepared and packed at the facility in Menemen, İzmir. It is offered as dark-colored flake slices. Though the label lists casing elements such as cavendish, plum, rum, licorice root, carob, fig extract, and honey, their proportions are low, and what stands out on the smoke is the plain tobacco taste.
Its character directly conveys the oily, exotic, sweet, and spicy side of Turkish tobacco, with a carob-like sweetness sitting in the background. Airing the tobacco for a while helps balance these flavors and makes it easier to light. It burns slowly, gives a long, cool smoke, and leaves a clean white ash in the bowl. Nicotine is above medium. It is a blend for those curious about the unflavored taste of domestic Oriental tobaccos and for smokers used to packing flake; since the scent it gives off in a room is pronounced, smoking it indoors calls for some care on that front.
