Flying Dutchman Black Cavendish

Flying Dutchman was one of the best-known pipe tobaccos from the Theodorus Niemeyer house, founded in Groningen by Meindert Niemeyer in 1819. This version, called Black Cavendish, is a Cavendish-forward, milder take on the main blend: Burley and Cavendish-processed Virginia leaves form a dark-colored mixture ready to be rubbed out by hand. Licorice root and vanilla can be sensed in the pouch aroma; the casing is measured and does not mask the leaf.

Its smoke is light and nicotine is low; despite being aromatic, the taste stays away from pronounced sweetness, running plain and mellow. A typical example for those wanting to get to know Dutch-style house tobaccos and after a low-intensity blend for all-day smoking. The brand later changed hands, production moved to Denmark for a period, and records indicate the blend was withdrawn from the market in the early 2010s.
