Vier Heeren Baai

Vier Heeren Baai is one of Theodorus Niemeyer's pouch tobaccos carrying on the Dutch "baai" tradition. The "baai" in the name is a historical term describing leaf brought to the Netherlands via Chesapeake Bay since the 17th century. The cut is ribbon rather than shag, and the blend carries a natural, nutty taste close to Virginia character.

On the palate it gives a woody, lightly nutty structure; the body is medium and can turn sharp when smoked fast, so it calls for a measured draw. Suited to smokers who enjoy unflavored or very lightly cased, plain European-style blends. Records indicate its distribution stayed largely confined to the Netherlands.
