Türk Pipo Tütünü is the domestic pipe tobacco produced by Turkey's Tekel monopoly since 1933, also known as Tabac Turc. It is built on Oriental leaf and presented as a flake; per its official description, the leaf is shaped by pressing with aged wooden blocks set into cast-iron molds. Along with Yayladağ Pipo Tütünü, it was one of two pipe tobaccos long produced in Turkey; records indicate production was later discontinued.
Its flavoring carries a sweet line leaning toward honey and carob, with strength between light and medium and flavor intensity moderate. Since it arrives with high moisture and its leaves stuck together straight out of the pack, it needs to be separated and left to air out for proper burning. A key record for smokers curious about the Oriental leaf's characteristic sweet-spicy character and the history of domestic production.
