Wild Cut Supreme is a black-cavendish-forward aromatic among the English-origin pipe tobaccos gathered under the Wessex name. The Wessex name comes from the pipe brand of Hall & Fitzgerald, whose hallmark was registered in England in the late 19th century; today the name survives only in this tobacco line. Virginia leaf serves as the base, but black cavendish is proportionally more dominant; the cut consists of coarse, moist pieces.
The tin gives an impression of chocolate, raisin, and a light nuttiness. The smoke is thick and plentiful, and the burn temperature is low; even drawn quickly, it tends not to bite the tongue. Since nicotine stays light, it suits not so much smokers seeking heft as those wanting a sweet, soft aromatic for long pipe sessions during the day.
