Blatter & Blatter Inc. has made pipes in Montreal since 1907, according to records; one of its makers was Robert Blatter. Dot color aids dating: after a pre-1964 factory period, green dots were used 1964-1967, and red dots after 1968. A single red dot marks a machine-made pipe, red paired with a gray dot marks an exceptional machine-made pipe with fine grain, and two red dots mark a limited hand-made pipe; see also Rettalb.
