Sasieni stamps fall into three periods: pre-transition (1919-1979), transitional (1979-1986), and post-transition (1986 to present); the number of dots on the stem identifies the line. The script "Sasieni" signature was changed by Alfred Sasieni after the Second World War, and from 1986 the "FOUR DOT" stamp was replaced by "4DOT." The double-row, two-dot model appears in the 1939 catalog but not in the 1936 or 1943 catalogs; these examples are noted as using Algerian briar, with "Ruff Root" being the name of the sandblasted finish.
