YDF 50

YDF 50 is a high-Latakia-ratio broken flake blend that Gladora Tobacco offers in the Turkish market under the name YD-50. Records indicate it was designed as an updated interpretation of the Yayladağ mixture known to Turkish pipe smokers from the 1950s through the early 2000s; the same product is also known in export markets as Latakia 40 Broken Flake. The combination of a Virginia body, Turkish Orientals, and dominant Latakia pulls the blend toward the Balkan style.

On the smoke, incense and wood dominate, the Orientals add a spicy, lightly tart layer, and Virginia supplies sweetness in the background. There is no topping. The broken-flake structure eases packing, and with proper moisture it burns slowly and cool. Suited to smokers accustomed to Latakia-heavy blends and to those tracing a classic Turkish-made mixture.
