Ozgur Pipe is a Turkish meerschaum pipe maker based in Eskişehir; its name is written in foreign correspondence and in its domain name with Turkish characters dropped. In its own promotional materials the firm states that it has been engaged in stone carving since 2008, working with staff carvers as well as outside master carvers. Most of what is known about the brand rests on this statement and on archived sales pages; the founder's name does not appear in independent records.
The Stone It Uses
The firm states that all of its products are carved from block meerschaum — that is, from stone worked in the solid form in which it emerges from the mine, rather than from material obtained by pressing crumbs and dust with a binder. According to its statement, the blocks it uses are Türkmentokat, Karatepe, and Margı stone, falling into the class known as "Sarısu."
These names correspond to actual mines in the region. In the geological literature, the nodular sepiolite deposits between Türkmentokat and Karatepe are known as the Sarısu Mines; Margı is likewise among the region's known extraction points. According to field records, the stone is extracted from narrow shafts dug by hand thirty to forty meters deep, and whether a given shaft will yield a block suitable for pipes cannot be known until digging is complete. The firm has not disclosed which mine it sources from or through which intermediary; this detail is often the workshop's own private knowledge within Eskişehir meerschaum carving.
Catalog and Working Arrangement
According to archived site records, products were grouped under the headings classic shapes, animal figures, human figures, mouthpieces, and replacement bowls. On the classic side, standard molds such as billiard were offered with smooth, lattice-carved, and rustic surface finishes. Some models had a 925 silver ferrule fitted where the bowl meets the mouthpiece, and some had a 9 mm filter chamber drilled. The figural work ranged from relief floral ornament to animal heads and period-costumed human busts.
The catalog also contained a section dedicated to a master carver named "Kenan." Rather than the signature of a single bench, this structure — gathering the work of different hands under one name — is a common working arrangement in Türkiye, falling between an individual master's workshop and factory production.
Falcon and Kirsten Bowls
What sets the brand apart from its peers is that it makes replacement bowls for metal-shanked pipe systems. Falcon and Kirsten are pipes with an aluminum shank whose bowl can be unscrewed and replaced; on the Falcon, since any bowl can be screwed onto any shank, the user can move between many shapes with a single shank. The original bowls for these systems are mostly made of briar. Ozgur Pipe has carved meerschaum bowls to fit the same thread size and given these products two separate headings in its catalog.
Limits of the Record
Internet archive records show the site was regularly updated between 2014 and 2018. In subsequent years the records grow sparse; copies taken in the mid-2020s land on a verification screen rather than page content. What scale the firm's production continues at today cannot be established from open sources. This picture is not unusual for Eskişehir: much of the city's production runs through benches of only a few people, and most of these benches are set up and dissolve without leaving a lasting brand identity.
