Blend 71: Long Golden Flake

Reiner Blend 71 is a flake blend prepared from golden Virginia leaf with white Burley and a small amount of Perique added, then pressed, sliced into long strips, and coiled into the tin. Reports indicate a light orange-and-honey casing is applied before pressing. The Reiner brand was established within the German maker Kohlhase & Kopp in the late 1990s.

In the smoke, Virginia's wheat-grass-like sweetness and citrus tang come forward; Perique adds a pronounced but measured spice and dark fruit layer on top, while Burley increases body and fullness. Thanks to its long-flake structure it can be packed rubbed out or folded, and burns slowly. It suits smokers used to the Virginia-Perique tradition looking for a medium-strength blend that ages well.
