In German, stummel means "stub, stump" — it first named a shape of German porcelain pipe, then became the American pipe industry's term for the shank; the word no longer carries this meaning in German today.

The story of a tobacconist's shop founded in Cambridge in the late 1880s, which its founder's elder sister ran for roughly twenty more years after his early death.

Tabako-bon is the tray, box, or small chest of drawers that gathered everything needed for kiseru smoking into a single set, used in Japanese homes, shops, and tea rooms. Developed from the incense ceremony's tray, it became a fixture of nearly every household during the Edo period.

Two containers used to carry tobacco in the Japanese smoking set: the soft leather or fabric pouch tabako-ire, and the hard-bodied, wood-carved tonkotsu. Their forms, metal clasps, and the miniaturizing trend of the late 19th century.

Tabako is the Japanese word for tobacco. For centuries, the form smoked in pipes across the country was kizami-tabako, sliced hair-thin and consumed in the slender metal pipe called the kiseru.

Türk Pipo Tütünü and Yayladağ, produced during Türkiye's state tobacco monopoly, were the country's own domestic pipe tobaccos for many years; after production stopped, they became objects of nostalgia within the pipe community.
